Friday, October 27th - Breakout Group

Criminal Defense Strategy and Tactics

Doug Beam · Eric Romano

KEY SKILL: LEARNING HOW TO ACTIUVELY “PROSECUTE” DEFENSE POSITIONS, ARGUMENTS & POINTS

This breakout session will be preceded by two video call conferences of one hour each in order for the attendees and faculty to get to know one another, to discuss homework assignments and to discuss other matters in preparation for the live session. The breakout session itself will focus on the mindset of great criminal defense lawyers and what separates the successful from the not so successful criminal defense lawyers when it comes to results in the courtroom (as to both verdicts and plea arrangements). We will immerse ourselves in matters of advocacy including pretrial motion practice, investigation tactics, methods of interrogation of witnesses dealing with experts, contending with the uncooperative or recalcitrant but important fact witness, in engaging in a “best practices” modeling regarding summation.
